Wanted: Green Builder In-Residence

by Daimen Hardie on February 9, 2016

Nomadic Cabin - Rural Innovation Campus, New Brunswick

Community Forests International is hosting its second international competition for the backwoods cabin of the future, and is seeking a Green Builder In-Residence for the summer of 2016 to help bring the winning design into reality.  The cabin will be constructed at the fledgling Rural Innovation Campus near Sussex, New Brunswick and will provide a hands-on learning opportunity for students aspiring to a career in sustainable building.  The Green Builder In-Residence will be involved in all stages of the program - serving as a jury member in the selection of a top design, helping to develop an associated green building workshop program, and leading students throughout the construction process.

Interested builders are kindly requested to send their résumés to daimen@forestsinternational.org before March 1st, 2016.

Community Forest International’s 2014 competition attracted over 50 entries from around the world.  The winning design - dubbed the Nomadic Cabin - combined local materials and vernacular in a super-efficient envelope and won the judges over with it’s innovative approach to portability.  It now provides cozy off-grid accommodation to guests and students at the Rural Innovation Campus, and Community Forest International is excited to follow on this success with a second design challenge.  The full 2016 competition criteria is available here.
