Michenzani’s participation in the Pemba Community Forests project started when a group of women wished to plant trees in order to generate support for children attending the local school. As a result, planting trees in the community always proves to be eventful, with hundreds of students participating. The community plants trees in several sites around the shehia and hopes to diversify to include more tree species in the coming year. Michenzani has taken part in an Islamic Ethics environmental education program that uses the Qur’an in order to teach the importance of environmental stewardship and as a result harbors an exceptional commitment to the environment at the community level.
Michenzani is located in Mkoani District and is with a population of 5,640 (2,785 male and 2,855 female).
