#2 - Beekeeping Cooperatives

by Community Forests International on December 18, 2014

Pemba is a safe haven for honeybees.  The island’s secluded environment is free of the industrial chemicals and destructive mites linked to their current population crash.   Pemba’s mangrove, fruit, and spice trees also happen to produce some of the most flavorful honey in the world! CFI is now building on a successful pilot project by establishing beekeeper cooperatives in 13 different communities across Pemba.  The cooperatives will allow members to share in equipment costs while receiving training and ongoing technical support necessary for the growth of this promising trade.  To support a budding beneficial relationship between Pemba's honeybees, communities, and trees – please watch our most recent video and ‘bee-come’ a supporter!
