# 6 Make Hay While the Sun Shines

by Community Forests International on December 14, 2012

Energy is often abundant, but for practical use you have to collect and store it. Take for example the abundant energy of our sun. By using a simple solar panel and battery you can collect this tremendous energy during the day and stores it for later use. This age old conservation idea can be applied to most anything really. We have put this principle into practice on the Islet of Kokota, off the coast of Pemba,Tanzania, by helping villagers build a massive 250,000 liter water storage tank and metal roof to collect rainwater during the monsoon season for use throughout the rest of the year, helping transition a community of 500 people out of water scarcity.
